Summer 2020 promises to be full of cultural events in Croatia, with plenty of performances hosted by the towns and cities across Dalmatia. We have searched the internet in order to compile a list of some of the highlights the region has to offer. Will these cultural events in Croatia coincide with your sailing holiday? Cycle of baroque music
- Where: Dubrovnik
- What: Orlando Furioso, organized by the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra. Performances of baroque music held over a week.
Le Petit Festival du Theatre
- Where: Dubrovnik
- What: A small, but unique and special festival of international cultural events. This is a three day program with poets, actors and dancers from around the world.
International Children’s Festival
- Where: Šibenik
- What: The heart of the city is taken over and dedicated to children. This is the 60th year of the International Children’s Festival. There are workshops and open air events held throughout the festival with something for everyone – adults and kids. These include drama, visual arts, music, puppets, film & television.
Midsummer Scene
- Where: Dubrovnik
- What: This is an established festival of plays by Shakespeare, which is performed in English. The backdrop is Dubrovnik’s St Lawrence Fortress, certainly providing a spectacular location for some very special theater.
Ana in Town
- Where: Dubrovnik
- What: Of all the cultural events in Croatia, this has to be the most magical. Croatian cellist, Ana Rucner returns to the city in order to play her distinctive style of classical music. She starts at dawn with a performance from the top of Srdj mountain, one of the most magical experiences you will ever have.
International Opera Arias Festival ‘Tino Pattiera’
- Where: Dubrovnik
- What: 2020 marks the 12th opera festival in Dubrovnik, held over a week. Named after the famous tenor, Tina Pattiera, this an internationally renowned festival of Opera.
Vis Cultural Summer
- Where: Vis
- What: The island of Vis holds an annual program of events for its summer visitors. There is a good variety, for instance, theater, music, choir, singing and klapa ensembles.
Summer events program
- Where: Elafiti islands, Koločep, Lopud, Šipan, Zaton, Orašac
- What: The City of Dubrovnik and the Tourist Board organize music and entertainment programs of traditional folk festivities across the region. There will be 30 performances this summer, such as Dalmatian vocal groups concerts, folklore performances, classical music concerts and performances by Croatian music entertainers.
Dubrovnik Summer Festival
- Where: Dubrovnik
- What: 71st anniversary of this festival which intertwines theater, music and dance programs in venues across Dubrovnik
Split Summer Festival
- Where: Split
- What: Split’s historic UNESCO heart is opened to an array of amazing summer cultural events in Croatia. For example, there are various art exhibitions, performances of dance and song groups, drama theaters, opera and ballet. Furthermore, there are numerous concerts, often held in the open air squares of the Diocletian’s Palace.
Queenvention Zadar
- Where: Zadar
- What: A two day music festival devoted to Queen lovers at one of the most beautiful open air locations in Croatia.
Šipan Summer Film School
- Where: Šipan
- What: Showings of ten selected films with an international flavor
Music Festival – Dubrovnik in late Summer
- Where: Dubrovnik
- What: Great classical music concerts organised by the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, bringing internationally acclaimed artists to the area. For the 7th year the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra organizes the International Late Summer Music Festival Dubrovnik, which brings internationally acclaimed artists to the town. The music director of the festival this year is Austrian conductor Christoph Campestrini.
Stradun Classic
- Where: Dubrovnik
- What: Marija Pavlović, Artist in residence
Autumn Music Variety
- Where: Dubrovnik
- What: Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra autumn concerts are covered with a new festival which brings a variety of musical events
Good Food Festival
- Where: Dubrovnik
- What: The new edition of the Good Food Festival brings presentations of culinary specialties typical for the region, educational programs for children, tastings of regional wines, culinary workshops, and events such as ‘Dinner with a famous chef ‘, workshops on preparing Dubrovnik delicacies, special menus in Dubrovnik restaurants, an ‘Eat & Walk’ culinary tour, as well as other surprises.
